The foundation of my work is a holistic model, and I consider body, mind, and spirit as integral to the healing process.

HOW I WORK
Acceptance and change
I view therapy as a balance between the complimentary processes of acceptance and change. In my experience, lasting change occurs through bringing kindness and curiosity to ourselves exactly as we are right now, rather than trying to force ourselves to be different. When we are struggling with life, we sometimes try to reject our experience in an attempt to fix it or make it go away. However, rejecting ourselves in this moment is not good practice for accepting ourselves in another. And, in one of life’s most beautiful paradoxes, once we accept ourselves, everything changes.
In addition to accepting ourselves the way we are, sometimes we need to make changes in order to reach our goals. So, alongside the process of acceptance, I will also support you in setting goals for change that are based on your values and desires.
As we work together, I will provide you with practical tools that you can use between sessions to solidify your gains and make our work together more effective. These tools can help you manage difficult emotions, break free of stuck patterns, express your needs more effectively, become your own best friend, and set goals and track your progress.
Mindfulness is a key aspect of my approach to therapy. Mindfulness can be described as paying attention to our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and environment in a non-judgmental way. This can enable us to get enough distance from troubling experiences so that we can have a choice in how we respond.
Sometimes psychological work can also open us up to the deeper dimensions of life. Wrapped in the dark camouflage of our wounds, lie jewels that are waiting to be discovered. As we journey into the painful shadows of the psyche, we discover our hidden light. We are led from pain, isolation, and despair, to a sense that life is a great teacher and a great friend. We can move from a place of darkness, to a place of light. In our work together, it is my sincere hope to help you transform avoidance into inquiry, and self-judgment into self-compassion. In this way, psychological healing can occur within the greater context of spiritual unfolding.
I tailor my approach to the needs and preferences of each person. I use a variety of modalities from the scientific to the soulful: relational therapy, attachment theory, Gestalt therapy, somatic experiencing, body focusing, values-based coaching, transpersonal psychology, and the Enneagram. For clients who want more structure, I use tools from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). I also have a deep appreciation for the healing that occurs through creative expression such as music, dance, and visual arts. Here are some books that I recommend.
